OXER STABLES’ Standardbred Show

Class Descriptions

Halter & Showmanship Division (Halter – Stallions & Geldings; Halter – Mares; Showmanship)

All classes to be shown in hand in a halter or bridle at walk and trot or pace, as directed by the Judge.  Halter to be judged on horse's conformation.  Showmanship to be judged on competitor's handling of the horse on the line.  In all classes, accepted attired would be English or Western show attire or neat, conservative suits (for men) or slacks, blouse and jackets (for ladies).  Shoes appropriate for running are required. 

English Performance Division (English Pleasure Walk/Trot or Pace; English Pleasure Walk/Trot or Pace/Canter; English Equitation, Walk/Trot or Pace)

To be shown under saddle both ways of the ring at the gaits described.  English pleasure to be judged on the horse’s manners and way of going.  Equitation to be judged on the ability and skill of rider - may be asked to perform sitting trot.  In all classes, riders may be asked to rein back.

Western Performance Division (Western Pleasure Walk/Jog or Pace; Western Pleasure Walk/Jog or Pace/Lope; Western Equitation, Walk/Jog or Pace)

To be shown under saddle both ways of the ring at the gaits described.  Western pleasure to be judged on the horse’s manners and way of going.  In all classes, riders may be asked to rein back. Equitation to be judged on the ability and skill of rider.

Games Division (Barrels, Pole Bending)

To be shown in English or Western Tack. 

Pleasure Driving Division (Pleasure Driving – Working; Pleasure Driving - Reinsmanship)

To be shown to a suitable pleasure driving vehicle with wooden or pneumatic wheels and solid floor – driver's feet to be on the floor, no race bikes permitted.  To be shown both ways of the ring at walk, working trot, strong trot and slow trot.  May be required to rein back.  Working class judged primarily on horse’s suitability to provide a pleasant drive.  Reinsmanship to be judged primarily on the ability and skill of the driver.  Driver may be asked to drive a short pattern.

Over Fences Division (Green Working Hunter over Fences – 2'; Open Working Hunter over Fences – 2'6”; Jumper 2'9” - Table A; Jumper 3'0” - Table A Speed)

Working Hunter Over Fences: Judged on the horse's movement, manners, way of going, and jumping form.

Jumper Classes:  Table A:  First round not timed. If horse & rider jump clear in the first round (no knockdowns, refusals or falls), they are eligible for the Jump Off.  The Jump Off is timed.  In the Jump Off, the least faults will win, with time being the deciding factor for equal faults.  Table A Speed:  One round, the least faults will win, with time being the deciding factor.

Jr. Equitation – Walk/Trot or Jog or Pace

Open to Jr. competitors 18 year or younger.  To be shown in English or Western Tack.  To be judged on the ability and skill of the rider.
